The Kingdom of Ardennes was a once-great elven nation in the southwest edge of Norn. It is the ancestral home of countless wood elves and the mischievous spirits known as the fae. The native elves and sprites of the forest have long wished for peace and isolation, but fate has conspired to bring to forest nothing but pain and suffering throughout the ages.
Beginning under the rule of Emperor Sheol XIII, the Du’un Empire began a grand campaign to burn the mystic forest to the ground. The effort to raze Ardennes continued until the death of Sheol XIV and the fall of the Empire in Y498. About fifty years ago, in Y798, an unstoppable coalition of orcs and goblinoids of all kinds invaded the forest from its eastern edge, slaughtering and pillaging as they went. Thousands of elves fled the forest and into Grandévere and Praetoria to escape the orcish onslaught. Those who did not flee are said to have disappeared into the sacred heart of the forest with their fairy kin, protected by the spirits of the woods. The orcs’ intention is unknown; the attack was unprovoked and, though they continue to occupy the forest, they have made no effort to continue their war of conquest into southern Praetoria. Few know even a fraction of the arcane secrets the forest shelters, and the wood elves are loathe to speak of their conquered homeland.
