Hildsvine (pronounced HILDZ-veen) is a duchy of Grandévere and the kingdom’s capital city. The duchy governs the southwestern reaches of the kingdom, stretching from the eastern border of Ardennes to the western foothills of the Barrier Peaks. The capital of Hildsvine is a thriving port city that commands both a formidable merchant fleet and a widely respected navy. Hildsvine is the political and economic capital of Grandévere; it has close commercial ties with the Tanais Republic and is home to Golveig Palace, the seat of the Grandéveran monarchy. The city was named for a mystical animal, the wise boar Hildisvini, that Freya spoke with when she and her army made camp near the rocky harbor. The city attracts folk from all over Norn to trade, to pray in the Sunlit Cathedral, and to seek refuge elsewhere in Grandévere. Soldiers of fortune from across the continent visit Hildsvine to find work at the Adventurer’s Agency, a syndicate that matches treasure hunters with employers and organizes expeditions into newly-discovered ruins.
Hildsvine is the most cosmopolitan of the five Grandéveran duchies, but humans are still the most populous kind, composing about fifty percent of any Hildsvine city’s population. Most humans in Hildsvine have a particularly progressive outlook and believe that Grandévere’s continued prosperity relies on kindred diversity within the knighthood and nobility. As such, many uncommon kinds possess noble titles within Hildsvine. Though they would be considered an oddity anywhere else in Grandévere, wood elf and dragonborn knights are not unusual in Hildsvine.
