Mystletainn (pronounced MISS-ull-tayn) is one of the holy relics known as the Regalia. It was wielded by the crusader Hod when the Nine Crusaders struck down Emperor Sheol XIV. Though it was a sacred blade, blessed by Io, Mystletainn is said to bear a mighty and unbreakable curse. This curse is said to have caused the death of his brother, Baldur, Augusty’s secession from Grandévere, and Hod’s eventual disappearance and presumed suicide. The blade was lost forever when Hod vanished into the Praetorian wilderness in Y522. Though dozens of expeditions have searched for Hod, and later, Hod’s remains, neither the crusader nor his sacred weapon were ever seen again. Because of the weapon’s tragic mythology, it is often referred to as the Weeping Blade.
Hod was renowned for his dexterous bladework and preternatural skill with a blade. It is suggested that Mystletainn played some role in his ability to end a fight with a single deft stroke to his opponent’s neck.
